RICH CREEK, VA – Walter Davis Kirk, 91, of Rich Creek, VA, passed away, July 23, 2016 at the Commonwealth Assisted Living in Christiansburg, VA, a place he considered his second home. Born October 10, 1924 in Giles County, VA he was the son of the late Jesse Reed and Mary Lelia Moorehead Kirk. As a long time member of the Rich Creek First United Methodist Church, he enjoyed singing in the choir and was a devoted servant to his fellow man. He was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his family especially at Kure Beach. His garden was one of his greatest joys and he spent many hours cultivating vegetables, while sharing most of them with friends and family. He was World War II, US Army Air Force Veteran and was retired from the Celanese Corp. with 47 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Mildred Louise Simpkins Kirk, brothers, Paul (Cleo), Glen (Opal), sister, Irene Tickle (Emory). Survivors include his son, Johnny Kirk and wife Paulette of Blacksburg, VA, daughter Connie Sublett and husband John of Pembroke, VA, grandchildren, Jason Kirk and wife Kehinde of McLeansville, NC, Tina Russell and husband Tom of Blacksburg, VA, Adam Sublett and wife Tiffany of Pearisburg, VA, Katherine Shirah and husband Cliff and Stuart Sublett all of Pembroke, VA, 8 great grandchildren, in laws, Don Simpkins and wife Marie, Ronnie Simpkins and wife Sylvia, Newton Simpkins and wife Tamera, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Rich Creek First United Methodist Church with Rev. Betsy Switzer officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, VA. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, WV and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. The family would like to thank the staff at C.A.L. in Christiansburg for all the care and attention he received there as a resident the past two years. Also, thank you to Southern Care Hospice and his Stay at Home sitters for the compassion and comfort given to Dad to help him have some peace during his final days.
