MARTIN, Jerry Maxwell (Dee)

Jerry Maxwell (Dee) Martin, 81 of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 24th, 2015 at Heritage Hall in Rich Creek.

A lifelong resident of Giles County, Dee was born on June 15th, 1934, and was the son of the late Eldridge Richard and Lillian Frazier Martin.  In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vada Hilton Martin; three brothers, Richard Martin, Jr., Joe Lindal Martin, William Mac Martin; three sisters, Kathyern Martin Nepstad, Arbutus Nelson, and Lucille V. Bell.

Dee was an employee of L&M Tannery of Pearisburg, and Norfolk Southern railroad until his retirement.  He loved gardening, practically plowing nearly every garden in Narrows.  A former member of the New River Rebels baseball team, Dee also enjoyed fast-pitch softball, winning a state championship in the 1960s.  An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a sister, Peggy Fish and husband John of Mooresville, North Carolina; four brothers, David Martin of Narrows, Bobby Martin of Narrows, Pete Martin of Staffordsville, and Raymond Martin of Narrows; a special nephew and caregivers, Buddy and Nina Nepstad of Pearisburg; a special sister-in-law, Patty Martin and grandson Bryan; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends, including special caregivers Judy Stables, Wendy Tiller, Shannon Akers.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 28th, 2015 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows. Burial will follow in Angels Rest Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service Saturday from 6 to 8 PM.
