Dorothy Ray (Dot) Patteson, 92 of Glen Lyn, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 4th, 2016. She was born in Castlewood, Virginia on June 21st, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Sam and Martha Snow Ray. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Baker Patteson; a daughter, Barbara White and her husband Curtis; a son, Stephen Bowles; and a canine companion, Little Ben. A retired employee of Giles County Public Schools, Dot loved music, and was a longtime faithful member of Rich Creek First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was a member of Lakeland Chapter #74 of the Order of the Eastern Star. An avid gardener, she enjoyed growing flowers and canning vegetables. She loved to walk, and enjoyed relaxing in the sun. Left to cherish her memory are three children, Richard W. Bowles and wife Brenda of Lake Frederick, Virginia, Deborah B. Lewis and husband Kirt of Narrows, Glenn P. Bowles and wife Elizabeth of Princeton; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Bowles of Johnson City, Tennessee; ten grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Elliouise Little of Dallas, Texas; four stepchildren, Raymond Patteson, Carlene Blankenship, Alinda Parcell, and Leah Patteson; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends, including caregivers Karen and Henry Mann, and Lee Ellen Kelly. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 7th, 2016 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Aubrey Whitlow officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM.
