PRICE, James Robert

James Robert Price, 89, of Newport, departed this life Thursday morning, May 21, 2015 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. Born in Newport ( in the same homeplace where he continued to live) on October 15, 1925, he was a son of the late Arthur Strobel and Mary Fringer Price. James was an integral part of the Newport Community as a member of the Newport – Mt Olivet United Methodist Church where he taught the adult Sunday School Class for many years and served as treasurer, a member of the Newport Ruritan Club, graduated from Newport High School in 1943, served his country in the U S Army during WWII , earning his Bachelor Degree from Virginia Tech after the war, and was employed at RAAP until he retired in 1990. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Dorothy Price Kinzie, a brother Harry Price, and an infant sister. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 48 years Annette Faust Price; his daughter and son-in-law Melanie and Brian Rader of Blacksburg; his son and daughter-in-law J. D. and Cory Price of Christiansburg; his sister Edith P. Sloop of Blacksburg; and his grandchildren Nathan, Hannah, Holly, Noah, Isabelle, Rowan, and Wyatt. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 11:00 am in the Newport-Mt Olivet United Methodist Church in Newport with the pastor, The Rev. Morris Fleischer officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the services. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley in Blacksburg. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers please send contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Newport – Mt Olivet United Methodist Church in Newport.
