SHEPHERD, Edwin Lee (“Pete”)

RICH CREEK, VA – Edwin Lee (“Pete”) Shepherd departed his earthly home June 29, 2015. He was born on November 10, 1926, the middle child of Allen Edgar and Beulah McDonald Shepherd. His parents; his beloved wife, Ruby Ferrell Johnson; his older sister, Madge Shepherd Thomas; and his younger sister, Geraldine “Betty” Shepherd Wehrli preceded him in death.  “Pete” and Ruby were married in July 1947 and created a true partnership of 66 years dedicated to their faith, to each other, to their children and grandchildren, and to unselfish deeds for others. Two daughters, Rora Josephine (“Jo”) Stables (husband, James, Jr.) and Brenda Shepherd will cherish his memory always. His beloved grandchildren, Kimberly Wills Crocker (husband, John); Christopher Scott Stables; and J. Blake Wills (wife, Jessica), and his eight great grandchildren: Andrew, Paige, and Samuel Crocker; Elliott and Frances Stables; and Rachel, Claira, and Isabel Wills were richly blessed by his love, guidance and wisdom.  As a 68-year member of his beloved church, Rich Creek First United Methodist, “Pete” rarely missed worship services and opportunities to help others in the community. He served in numerous leadership capacities and readily volunteered anytime there was a need anywhere.  “Pete” retired from Celanese Fibers Corporation in 1986 after 43 years of service that was interrupted only by his 2-year service as a member of the United States Army.  The family expresses heartfelt thanks to all of the friends and neighbors who offered boundless support that helped “Pete” stay in his home as long as possible.  The services honoring his life will be at Rich Creek First United Methodist Church beginning with visitation at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 2, 2015. The funeral will follow at 12:00 PM with Rev. Aubrey Whitlow and Rev. Betsy Switzer officiating. Please join us, either with your presence or in spirit, as we honor an exemplary and inspiring life. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, VA.  Surely you are hearing the Master’s words, “Well done thou good and faithful servants…enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”  Online guestbook can be signed or condolences may be sent to the Shepherd family at www.broyles-shrewsbury.com.
