Harvey, Bonnie Dodrill French

Bonnie Dodrill French Harvey, 92, formerly of Narrows, passed away Tuesday, April 7^th, 2015 at The Shannon Gray nursing facility in Jamestown, North Carolina.

She was born in Elgood, West Virginia on March 17^th, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Walter Guffy and Lena Belle Chipps Dodrill.  In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Claude William French and Stanley Roosevelt Harvey; a great-grandson, William Conode; a brother, Walter D. Dodrill, Jr.; and a sister, Bessie Dover.

She was a graduate of Oakvale High School as valedictorian.  She retired from the United States Postal Service with 38 years of service.  For 60 years, she worked at Celanese, B&B Stores, Spur Feed and Supply, the Narrows Livestock Market, Virginian Leader, Penny Pinchers, Arnold Conley’s Grocery Store on Wolf Creek, Giles Dry Cleaning, and Mutt’s Trading Post in Rich Creek.  She was a member of Woodland Street Baptist Church in Narrows, 39ers of Rocky Gap United Methodist Church, the 49ers of Laurel Fork Baptist Church in Rocky Gap, the DMAs of Johnston Chapel Baptist Church in Princeton, and the VFW Post #68 Ladies Auxiliary in Narrows.  She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Jerry French and wife Connie of Madson Heights, Virginia; two daughters, Janet Smith and husband Jerry of High Point, North Carolina, Betty Morris and husband Melvin of Columbia, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Charles Dodrill of Princeton, West Virginia; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 10^th, 2015 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Dr. Thomas Conley officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery in the Wolf Creek community near Narrows.  The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Chapel Friday from 12 PM until just prior to the service.  The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America; 332 Eighth Avenue, 7^th Floor; New York, NY 10001
