PAYNE, Nora A.

Nora A. Payne, 89, of the Clendenin Community of Narrows went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 24, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was born January 5, 1926 at Raven, VA, the daughter of the late John & Ida Prater. She worked as a presser for many years at Oxford Sewing Plant in Narrows. She was a dedicated Christian and served her church, The Church of the Lord Jesus. Nora was preceded in death by her parents John and Ida Prater; her sisters, Margie Diviak, Frances Diviak, Emma Lee Davis and Bee Newberry; her brother, Eulass Prater; her sons-in-law, Daniel Elledge, Marvin Kirk and Thomas Simpson and  her grandson, Brian Simpson. She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, William Hufford Payne, Narrows; her sons & daughters-in-law, Jackie & Darlene Payne, Narrows, and Darrell & Jackie Sue Payne, Dublin; her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Elledge, Mayville, MI, Janice Givens, Patricia Kirk, Monica & Buddy Evans and Marcena & Mickey Williams, all of Narrows; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grand-children. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at The Church of the Lord Jesus, 1663 Clendenin Road, Narrows, with Rev. Butch White and Rev. Erick Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the Payne Cemetery, Clendenin Road, Narrows. Visitation services will be held Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M., Friday, August 28, 2015 from 11:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. and Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 11:00 A.M. until service time, 2:00 P.M. at The Church of the Lord Jesus, Clendenin Road, Narrows. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Church of the Lord Jesus, 1663 Clendenin Road, Narrows, VA. The family would like to thank Dr. Walker, Dr. McMann, Dr. Laphon, Carilion Hospice and special thank you to Doris Lindsey and Karen McCraw for all of their help. May God bless each and every one.
