JOHNSON, Sr., James Irvin

James Irvin Johnson, Sr., 88, of Pearisburg, departed this life Thursday evening, April 16, 2015 at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Appalachia, Virginia on December 3l, 1926 he was a son of the late William Earl and Lydia Ellen Davidson Johnson. He had been a member of Faith Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pearisburg, was a veteran of the U S Navy, WW II, was retired from Inland Motors as a motor winder, and was a skilled craftsman with his hands. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Reba Lucille Fisher Johnson, his sisters Audrey Martin and Margaret Lucas, and his brother Robert Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his step-mother Ethel Saunders Johnson of Pearisburg; his son and daughter-in-law James I. Jr. and Lisa Johnson of Pembroke; his daughter and son-in-law Lydia J. and Ervin Wright of Narrows; his grandchildren Greg Parsell (Jessica), Justin Parsell (Paula), Jessica Johnson, Amanda Hixon, Daphanie Dardy, Marcus Reed (Ashley), Cory Johnson (Beth); his great-grandchildren Zachary Parselll, Caity Parsell, Jackson Parsell, Kierra Wright, Noah Dardy, Easton Parsell, Emma Lucille Johnson, Domanic Graham, Holly Reed; his brothers Donald Johnson of Pearisburg, Earl Gene Johnson (Judy) of Pearisburg, Jerry Johnson (Kay) of Pearisburg, Butch Johnson of Pearisburg; his sisters Ada Lee French of Pearisburg, Mary Lee Jones of Pearisburg, Earthel Middleton of Pearisburg.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Debra Hutton and Pastor Jerry Norris officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with graveside military honors by American Legion Posts 311, 68 and 145 and VFW Post 6000.
